Creating a deck on the roof level of your boathouse maximizes your shoreline leisure area. It is very effective in cottage locations with steep slopes down to the shoreline. As you can see here a ramp can offer direct access to your entertainment area. If you have the water depth, it is also perfect for the “big jumps”. This style of boathouse is very popular in the Gravenhurst area where current zoning bylaws don’t allow more than one level. The most cost effective way to build a dock and boathouse is with a barge. This is the case not only for island properties. Even on the mainland shores, bringing the materials via barge to the project is significantly more efficient than having the materials delivered by truck and then carried by hand, often down significant slopes, to the dock. In some cases the beams are to too large to even carry. The barge is loaded up at the closest boat launch by crane and stays at the dock as the workers build the boathouse. Important to load the materials you need first at the top! The barge is also used as a working platform. We own our barges and this allows us to leave them at the projects. It costs well over $100/hour to rent a barge so your boathouse construction costs will increase significantly if your builder is reliant on others to get the materials to your shoreline. Dock accessories provide the finishing touches to make your dock the place to be on a hot summer’s day in Muskoka. Choosing the right product and ensuring it’s proper installation will allow you to enjoy your new dock for many years to come. Dock Bumper: Comes in different profiles and colours. Protects your boat anddock and also provides a smoother edge for swimmers. They are installed with stainless steel screws and washers. Dock Cleats: Can be recessed or flip down. This eliminates any trip hazards and offers flexibility for tying up your water toys. We install them using galvanized or stainless lag bolts. Swim Ladder: Can be stainless steel or aluminum. Flip up dock ladders are recommended so they can be flipped out of the lake when not in use. This will prolong their lifespan and deter algae growth causing the ladder to be slippery. Swim Steps: An alternative to the swim ladder. They offer a more gradual entrance and exit. ...

We are often approached with unique challenges and this was a good one! The customer was maxed out in allowable development area on his cottage property but he needed somewhere to land his helicopter. Our engineer designed a multiple pontoon floating dock which did the trick. A special mention to the incredibly skilled pilot who did a perfect landing….thank goodness!
